preload_replace and whitespace
I just discovered that the “preload_replace” tag does not work if spaces are included around the equal sign. Try it yourself:

I’ve run into this problem more than once, and I’m adding this to the list of ExpressionEngine tips. By writing it down, hopefully I’ll remember it on future projects. EE conditionals do not work in JavaScript by default.
Back in 2008 while working on two large website redesign projects, I needed to create a set of common reusable styles and a series of basic HTML layout patterns. One of the projects needed a comprehensive style guide detailing the CSS usage. The project also required several layout variations in anticipation of different content configurations. Both projects shared some common layout features.
I just relaunched this site with an updated design, and updated code. The design is an evolution from what was here before. The layout is mostly the same, and the previous color scheme carried forward. I improved the legibility of the type, and switched from serving my own web fonts to Google web fonts. I brought news items back to the home page in order to keep updated content there. Some text content has been updated. I also added categorization in the work section.
I recently completed production on a website for Alan Hill Design. As with other projects we have collaborated on, Alan Hill designed the site, and I handled the front-end development. The website makes use of jQuery to load sections dynamically, and the content is editable via ExpressionEngine.
Over the past year or so, I’ve needed to create basic image galleries with some minor variations. It’s easy enough to reuse bits and pieces of code, but I’d rather have a basic gallery, free of any styling, to use as a starting point. Here are some variations, available at my personal site.
